OVERNIGHT STAY BOLAÑOS ISLAND • THE PEARL ISLANDS
SONNY ECO RESORT
The Pearl Islands is an island-chain of paradise just an hour and a half away from the hustle and bustle of Panama City. Your journey into tranquility begins with a comfortable ferry ride on the Sea Las Perlas passenger ferry to the islands of the Pearl Islands Archipelago famous for its remote and clean, crystal clear water and white sand beaches.
If you choose to stay on the island this is definitely the best choice, there are 2 possibilities.
The Luxury Private wooden cabins are really fabulous, with private bathroom, A/C (being an Eco Resort it is available from 8:30 pm) and with incredible sea view, you can enjoy the beautiful view from the veranda and relax with the sounds of the sea.
As an alternative to the Luxury there are the Teepee, simple and cheap but very nice huts, which have a light inside and use of the shared bathroom and showers outside.
If you stay overnight you will be able to enjoy the island to the max, watching the Pacific Panamanian sunset will leave you speechless. The Sonny Eco Resort was built with total respect for nature, working 100% with solar panels.
The islands are so unlike the city that they offer the perfect "timeout" break from a busy daily schedule.
You will feel refreshed by the experience of immersing yourself in the island waters and lifestyle you see around you; so close and so attainable. Historically, the Pearl Islands have always been the glistening pearl of Panama, coveted by all who sail into this tropical marine wonderland. From the 1600's when the Spanish discovered the pearl-rich islands, many politically prominent and wealthy people, as well as celebrities, continue to keep these islands on the map as the go-to destination of the rich and famous.
When you're in The Pearl Islands, it's not uncommon to trip across film crews from several countries here on location filming show segments for reality "Survivor" genre TV shows.

SONNY ECO RESORT ON BOLAÑOS ISLAND
At Isla Bolaños, also known as the pristine island of Punta Baja Rico in Las Perlas archipelago, you will find Sonny Eco Resort, a luxurious ecotourism project with cabins that offer the best ocean views, allowing you to enjoy an authentic outdoor experience with all the amenities you deserve.
This project develops a concept of low environmental impact to preserve the 15 hectares of this pristine island that is just 90 minutes from Panama City aboard the ferry. This Island offers a dense tropical vegetation, varied fauna, rich marine life and two spectacular white san beaches that will invite you to relax, while enjoying a different weekend in this tropical paradise.
Under this approach, the resort currently offers cabins built with certified and immunized wood brought from Southeast's Asia and built to withstand adverse environmental conditions. These cabins are practically portable and adaptable to the geographical characteristics of the island to not disturb the ecosystem, in fact, they are located among existing trees to avoid deforestation and cause the least possible impact. Energy comes from solar panels installed on the roof of the buildings and the wastewater is treated with an innovative system of aerobic septic tanks, significantly reducing the ecological footprint.
These cabins have all the amenities of a luxury resort in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, as well as a restaurant on the highest part of the island, where you will taste the freshest fish and American-Style beef burgers, accompanied with a refreshing cold beer and the best view in the island. On the other side of the island is the beach bar, which is open during the day to enjoy varied sodas, beers and cocktails prepared fresh at moments notice.
As an alternative to the Luxury there are the Teepee, simple and cheap but very nice huts, which have a fan and light inside and use of the shared bathroom and showers outside.
And if you're wondering what to do on Isla Bolaños? The activities are countless, from paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, whale watching during the season, diving and soon it will be possible to go around the island by bike or walking through the new trails that are being built right now. These paths will give you access to hidden gems on this remote and charming island of the Panamanian Pacific.
Getting to know the true essence of Bolaños Island is possible at Sonny Island Resort. You can spend a night in one of its authentic ecological cabins surrounded by an effervescent tropical forest while enjoying the subtle sea breeze refreshing the evening, and during the day, discover the paradisiacal beaches of pristine crystal-clear waters and white sand. In this place you will be completely disconnected from the daily routine!
